(a letter to Prof. Liu)
I walked along Escandido Rd. about 25 minutes to get Dept. of ME. This is the first time to meet Prof. Kenny in US.
We began our conversation with group culture. Kenny told me: you get some problems and you have to find the answers on your own. No one is going to tell you what to do any more. This is the first challenge and also training for each graduate student. This is the style you are leading us and I am used to. Then we continued discussing research projects. Some projects post on the website seems to be inactive, or at least from my viewpoint, but they are actually in progress. MEMS resonator and encapsulation are still the focus mainly because a large amount of fund. For more details about the projects, I have to contact the elder group mates in charge. And we also talked about the courses. He suggested the most famous two courses: ME218 and ME310, both are project-orientated. For sure, he holds his style, these courses are not restricted but highly recommended especially ME218. I will take ME218 and “shop” for others.
Well, this might be the first time to speak English since I came here. It goes without saying I speak only a little. I am glad I can understand Kenny well though this should be the basic requirement. The campus is really big and beautiful. I get lost easily. I am not going to keep bothering you. Life here could be extremely busy once the class begins and I cannot mail you such frequently so I write to you now. :-)
